About Rishi
I’ve spent most of my career helping people get noticed.
I’m Rishi Balgotra. For more than 18 years I have worked on the hiring side of the table in US IT staffing and technical recruitment.
My job was to understand what a hiring team really needed and then find the people who could deliver it. Doing that every day taught me how careers get read, judged and sometimes missed. RishiWrites is where I use that experience to help the people on the other side of the table.

My story
Before I started writing resumes, I spent years reading them.
Most of my working life has been spent in US IT staffing and technical recruitment, sourcing and screening candidates for roles that were often very specific.
A big part of the job was listening. A hiring manager would describe what they needed and I would work out what that really meant before I went looking for people. Then I would read resume after resume to find the right match.
Over time I moved into leading recruitment teams and working closely with clients and hiring teams. I sat in the conversations where candidates were compared and shortlisted. I also spent a lot of time mentoring the people around me.
Along the way people I knew started asking for help. Can you look at my resume? Why am I not hearing back? Those conversations turned into career mentoring and career mentoring turned into RishiWrites.

The observation
The person on the resume was often stronger than the resume itself.
I saw it again and again. People had the experience, the skills and work they could be proud of.
But their resume did not show it clearly. Their LinkedIn profile told a different story. Their interview answers undersold what they had done and their job search had no clear direction.
None of that meant they were not good enough. It meant the pieces were not connected. That is where RishiWrites began.
I don’t just read your resume.
I read your journey.
A career is not simply a list of job titles. It is the progression, decisions, transitions, achievements and experiences between them.
How I read a resume
Why do I start at the bottom of the resume?
The top of a resume tells me where someone is now. The bottom tells me where they started.
So I read upward. I start with the foundation and then follow the progression, the transitions and the achievements that came with each move.
By the time I reach the current role I know what someone was building toward and what they might be underselling. That changes how I position the next step.
Rishi, the person
Outside the resume.
I have always been more interested in people than in paperwork. Recruitment gave me a lot of conversations with people at turning points in their careers. Some were excited. Some were frustrated. Many just wanted someone to listen properly.
Those conversations are still my favorite part of this work. Asking the question nobody asked before. Hearing the part of the story that never made it onto the page.
Mentoring people on my own teams taught me something too. People grow faster when someone takes the time to understand them first. That is what I try to bring to every conversation, because I believe people deserve to be seen clearly.
